And the Irises finished blooming a few weeks ago. But we are ready to celebrate together with a new energy and appreciation for each other and our community. Thank you, Keizer Chamber of Commerce, and KeizerFEST committee mem- bers and sponsors for making this celebration possible. Keizer is a community of strong friendships and commitment in action. When the call comes, for clearing tree limbs after an ice storm or providing a safe place after devastating wildfires, Keizer shows up. Now it is time to show up for Keizer. Our parade, pet parade, community library book sale, KeizerFEST tent and concerts, and so much more is back for us to enjoy together. This summer, Keizer is back in full gear, with the Keizer Rotary Amphitheater summer concerts, Mavericks Independent League professional baseball, and Keizer Homegrown Theater and local stand up comedy shows at the Keizer Cultural Center. Our city parks are looking better than ever and ready for you and your family to get out and have fun. Keizer, your pride, spirit and volunteerism continues to be a beacon of hope and community. After more than a year of lockdowns, canceled events and staying home, we are coming out of isolation and ready to reconnect with friends and the community. Last year’s festival was canceled due to COVID. Now that Oregon is fully opening and all restrictions lifted, KeizerFEST will be where the action is. KeizerFEST is Thursday to Sunday, Aug. 5 to Aug. 8, featuring most of the what we associate with Keizer's biggest community event: the parade down River Road, on Saturday, Aug. 7, the Main Tent filled with music. Runs, a car show, kid's activities and more. This year's theme is Dancin' in the Streets. If not literally, we'll all be danc- ing for joy that KeizerFEST is back. Organized by the Keizer Chamber of Commerce, KeizerFEST is the opportu- nity for the city to put its best foot for- ward. Thousands of people from Keizer and the surrounding area will descend on the city to watch the Valley Credit Service KeizerFEST parade. For many people KeizerFEST is the parade. Before the parade heads south down from Lockhaven Drive to Appleblossom Ave., River Road will be the course for the 3K and 5K runs at 9:15 a.m. After the runs, the Mayor's Pet Parade will take a short route from Lockhaven to Chemawa Road. Each year the Keizer Chamber of Commerce names the Grand Marshal of the parade. For this year's parade the Chamber has chosen principals of Keizer's 10 schools to lead the parade. The principals were cho- sen due to their work in the past 18 months to assure our kids were getting an education via distance learning. The principals are the right Grand Marshals at the right time. People are hungry to be out, party and socialize with friends and neigh- bors. Many will meet at the Main Tent on Cherry Ave. NE, in front of the Keizer Lions Club to dance and sing along to the bands on the Main Stage playing the music Keizer loves to listen to. Keizer may be a city of almost 40,000 but in many ways it is a small town. Neighbors help neighbors, we patronize our local businesses, we partake in activ- ities of every kind. KeizerFEST is the event that ties everything together. The orga- nizing com- mittee, led this year by Dave Walery and Danielle Bethell, worked tirelessly for months to assure that they stage a festival the city can be proud of. KeizerFEST, like the city itself, relies on the spirit of volunteers to get the job done. Besides the centerpiece parade, KeizerFEST goers have other activities to enjoy. The Kick O Party in the Main Tent is on Thursday, Aug. 5. A chicken dinner will be prepared by Adam's Rib Smokehouse for $10 ($5 for kids). The evening starts with laughter as the Willamette Valley Comedy Club presents a comedy show from 4 to 6 p.m. Live music starts at 6:30 p.m. when local band Fam Jam plays 1960s and '70s covers. A cornhole tour- nament is on the schedule for the Kick O Party.
